Our organizers build power through forming new relationships, recruiting members, developing leaders, and planning campaigns to make a change.
All the rights enjoyed by citizens and immigrants in this country result from the organized work and the struggle of people of color; civil rights, women's rights, and labor rights are not a gift from those in power. The people affected have understood their claims, fought for those rights, and won them. Together, we unite to bring about a just society, fully inclusive of immigrants.

The first in his family to go to college, Acevedo Cárdenas became an attorney, historian, social activist, and later a philanthropist dedicated to helping struggling families in Baja California. Building on the philanthropic legacy of her father and inspired to empower Latino communities in the US, Beatriz Acevedo launched US operations of the Acevedo Foundation in 2018 in Los Angeles, California. A cultural strategist, entrepreneur, and awarded media executive, Beatriz embodies the Acevedo family’s passion for creating access to opportunity for her community.
Today, the Acevedo Foundation’s mission is to elevate, educate and empower the next generation of Latino leaders. To accomplish that, the foundation supports three pathways: closing the educational gap, creating equitable access to capital, and promoting economic mobility and inclusion. The Foundation partners with influential non-profits, community partners, and civic leaders to develop initiatives that have proven instrumental in advancing Latino recognition.

In light of mass incarceration and mass deportation policies, Homies Unidos seeks to bring light to issues of Crimmigration and injustice against communities that are subject to criminalization based on their immigration status and identification as gang members. Our team of directly-impacted community leaders implements a range of culturally relevant programs to expose at-risk youth, currently and formerly incarcerated individuals, and their families to educational and career development opportunities, popular education, access to resources and services, leadership development, and opportunities to organize and mobilize communities to become peace builders and advocates for justice in their streets and homes. Together, we can change the narrative about immigrant youth and communities that are labeled “criminal” before they even set foot on US soil.
