As a current Los Angeles Unified (L.A. Unified) decision-maker or candidate, you have a unique opportunity to address the issues and barriers Latino students and families face daily. Three out of every four students in L.A. Unified are Latino, this large percentage of Latino student enrollment generates the highest level of revenue for L.A. Unified budget compared to any other student group, and Latinos are the largest part of the L.A. Unified workforce. Despite the large representation of Latino students, families, and district workforce, L.A. Unified has not ensured that all Latino students are properly educated and/or supported to reach their full academic potential as demonstrated by 18% fewer Latino students attending higher education after graduating from L.A. Unified compared to students statewide. Additionally, L.A. Unified academic indicators for Latino students are significantly lower than those for white students irrespective of income level.
